About Seattle Residents Directory

Seattle has no single, current book of residents. Useful leads instead sit with the King County Assessor and Recorder, Washington election officials, local courts, and Seattle's history collections. Seattle Residents Directory organizes those separate routes so readers can choose an official index, an archive, or a library collection that fits the name, address, or time period they are researching.

Why We Built It

Seattle's printed directories ended, but many of the records behind local research remain available from separate custodians. The King County Assessor and Recorder document parcels and recorded instruments. Election records follow Washington access rules. Seattle Public Library, Seattle City Archives, King County Archives, and Washington State Archives preserve older material. We bring the official search routes, office contacts, date ranges, and access limits together in one Seattle reference.

What the Directory Includes

  • Pages by angle: the street directory (address-keyed records), the city directory (the historical shelf), and the resident lookup (one-person searches)
  • The rolls and offices: assessor, recorder, elections office, court clerk, vital records, the library's local history collection
  • Walkthroughs: how to trace who lives on a street, how to read a directory entry, how to follow a household across the decades
  • Access rules: what Washington law opens, what stays closed, and how a records request works when something is not online

Limits of Our Role

Seattle Residents Directory is a privately run reference site. It is not connected with the City of Seattle, King County, Washington agencies, courts, libraries, or record custodians. Those boundaries mean:

  • We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Seattle
  • We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
  • We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
  • We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
  • We cannot promise that every coverage year, link, or office detail here is current at this moment

Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
